With rainfall Thursday in Chatham-Kent expected to top 25 millimetres, or one inch, the municipality is warning residents to be prepared for a rapid snowmelt, which could lead to possible flooding.
Municipal officials advise residents to keep storm drains clean, and check their sump pumps regularly.
Alan DeVillaer, co-ordinator of emergency medical services and emergency management for Chatham-Kent, also warns residents to be aware of potential flood conditions. He advises them to take extra caution and avoid rivers, lakes, ditches, streams and ponds.
