Sir: I recently read your article about plowing the streets (“It’s snow walk in the park” in the Feb. 6 Chatham Voice). I believe the crews are doing a great job. In fact too good.
It used to be normal to wait a couple of days for a plow to do our street, and as a kid we loved it. We could pick up the hockey sticks and puck and play under the street light on the hard-packed snow until all hours of the night. Now we get an inch of snow and salt is spread until everything is bare and wet.
Maybe sand would be a better alternative.
Or better, people could possibly stay home rather than venturing out with poor conditions. They can make coffee at home. It’s called a coffee maker. Tim Horton’s can wait for your visit at a better weather day.
