Chatham-Kent police arrested a local man Jan. 1 in connection with a number of thefts recently.

On Dec. 6, police say a man stole a coin box for laundry from an apartment building on Witherspoon Avenue. Security video caught the theft on camera.

On Dec. 29, a man pumped $17 in gas into his car’s tank at the Petroline on Grand Avenue East and left without paying, police say. Video surveillance captured the theft on camera there as well.

The next day, someone did the same thing on Richmond Street, stealing about $30 in gas from the Pioneer station there. Once again, security video caught the theft.

Police noticed the license plates on the vehicle at the Richmond Street theft were stolen.

Later that day, police found the vehicle abandoned on Beattie Street and discovered it had been stolen from a Blenheim business.

Police returned the vehicle to its owner, and continued searching for the culprit.

Two days later, Jan. 1, police arrested a man in Blenheim. A 36-year-old Chatham man. He faces numerous criminal charges in connection with the string of thefts.
