A Chatham man is dead after getting hit by a train Sunday afternoon east of Chatham.
Police say the tragedy took place on Northwood Line shortly after 2 p.m. when an eastbound passenger drain hit a pedestrian.
Despite lifesaving efforts by the train’s engineer, a 34-year-old Chatham man died at the scene.
The traffic management unit was called in to investigate, and are co-ordinating with railway police and the Office of the Chief Coroner.
The rail corridor was temporarily closed while investigators conducted their work, and the train was later permitted to continue.
Out of respect for the family, police say no further details will be released.
