Assault in Chatham

A Chatham man faces charges after police say he assaulted someone nearly twice his age Thursday morning.

Police got the call about 10:45 a.m. for a report of an assault on Edgar Street in Chatham.

Officers learned a 61-year-old man was physically assaulted and pushed to the ground by another man, police say. The victim sustained minor injuries and emergency medical services were not required.

A 32-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault.

Just stay the bleep away, pal

It seems simple. The courts tell you to not associate or even be near a specific person, and you comply.

However, here in Chatham-Kent, that too often is not the case.

On Thursday afternoon, police slapped the cuffs on a man, whom they say did not behave as ordered by the courts.

Shortly before 1:15 p.m., police were called to a residence on Little Street in Wheatley where someone, police say, had breached a court-ordered condition multiple times.

A man had conditions prohibiting him from going to any place where a 40-year-old Wheatley victim is known to live, work or frequent.

Despite the order, police say the man went to the person’s residence and forced his way in by damaging the back door.

That was back on March 13. Police say he returned on March 23 and 26. In the latter instance, officers found the guy inside the residence and gave him a set of steel bracelets and a free ride to police headquarters.

A 45-year-old man is charged with five counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and one count of mischief for kicking the crap out of that back door.
