Police officer assaulted

It began with dumpster diving and ended with punching a police officer.

Chatham-Kent police say a man is facing numerous charges after a Thursday morning altercation with officers in Chatham.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious man behind a dumpster at a King Street West business.

Police believed the man to have a controlled substance, and he was arrested. Upon arrest, the man attempted to flee and punched an officer, police say.

A 26-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer.

Criminal harassment

A Blenheim man faces charges after someone appeared to be stalking a Tilbury woman Thursday night.

Last night at 7:48 p.m., police were called to a Helen Street residence in Tilbury for a suspicious person complaint.

Through investigation, police learned a woman had observed a man following her and told him to stop.

The man continued to ride by the woman’s home, police say.

Police located the man and arrested him.

A 25-year-old Blenheim man was charged with criminal harassment.

Bail violations

At the end of May, a man was released from the court under a conditional sentence order. His conditions included remaining in his residence at all times, except for specific reasons.

However, on Thursday evening about 5:40 p.m., police were advised the man was at a business on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Officers attended and located the man.

A 23-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a probation order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
