The recent overnight theft of a couple of E-bikes at a Chatham apartment complex has led to charges.

Police say someone took the E-bikes from underneath the stairwell of the complex sometime between 9:30 p.m. June 14 and 7:30 a.m. June 15.

Police determined whom they believe were responsible and had arrest warrants issued for two men.

On Sunday afternoon, about 1:30 p.m., an officer saw one of the two men walking on Richmond Street in Chatham. Police say the man first ignored the officer’s request to stop, before assaulting the officer during the arrest process.

A 22-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault, two counts of theft and two of possession of property obtained by crime.

The same day, three hours later, police found the other man on Murray Street in Chatham.

A 40-year-old Chatham man faces two counts each of theft and possession of property obtained by crime.
